The Gambia Association has engaged in many activities and was able to register remarkable success in some of the activities it has involved in on behalf of its members and the The Gambian communities in and around of Birmingham. The Association has extended the same arm of help and compassion to the The Gambian communities back in The Gambia.
We deemed it necessary to keep the Gambia communities in UK, the diaspora and The Gambian population back home posted about Some of the Association’s success stories as mentioned below:
During the year of 2015, The Gambian Association has successfully carried out Adult Education Programme for people who migrated from other European countries to UK. The aim of the project was to help them understanding English, basic IT skills and British values in order to be able to quickly integrate into the British societies. The project benefited a cross section of people originally from our sub-region, that is from Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and Mali as well as other Europeans.
The Gambian Association organised a cultural evening which was graced by the renown Gambian musician Jaliba Kuyateh, whose experience took him round the world. Mr Kuyateh and his Kumareh band performed a memorable concert which left the community yearning for more. He later went on to have a couple of radio interviews on the origins of traditional African music. Before he left for the Gambia Jaliba was able to have some kora lessons with the youths of our community. He is a knowledgeable historian and an expert Kora player. His visit was a launching pad for our Arts and cultural program. Jaliba’s performance help introduce Gambian Arts and culture to the wider community which was unknown. The richness of our cultural heritage is attracting people to our events and the participation is brilliant.
The Association was able to provide books for The University of The Gambia and the acknowledgment letter from The University of The Gambia is attached below
The Gambia Association was able to establish a strong fraternal relationship between the South East Coast Ambulance Service and The Gambia Ambulance and Fire Service. Through this cordial relation, the South East Coast Ambulance Service has organised couple yearly training sessions in The Gambia with The Gambia Ambulance and Fire Service. The Gambia Ambulance and Fire Service has benefited tremendously from these training sessions to hone and polish the fire officers’ risk assessment and fire management skills. Our association will forever be very grateful to South East Coast Ambulance Services for the donation of 15 ambulances, 4000 nurse uniforms and communication set. These items came at the right time when they are highly needed in The Gambia.
Some of the correspondences as how to facilitate the training sessions are shown below:
