On Sunday 01/09/2019, Gambians in Birmingham and the surrounding converged at the Gambian mosque in Hockley in Birmingham to express their heartfelt condolences to the family, ourselves and prayed for him for the highest reward in Jannatul Firdaus. The event started with the recitation of Sura Yasin, followed by prayers and eulogies from the elders and religious leaders.
Sir Dawda’s demise was deeply felt by all Gambians from every corner of the world. He was the founding father of our beloved Gambia and had peacefully led us to Independence and ruled us in peace, candour, dignity and allowed the rule of law and democracy to flourish in the country. His legacy has stood the test of time and he has claimed eternity in our hearts and the history of the nation. Sir Dawda, we are mourning your departure and also celebrating your legacy and kindness as well as priding ourselves being your subjects.
We are praying fervently for you to attain Jannatul Firdaus. Rest in peace our beloved Father of the nation and may we live to see many days and nights as you did at age 95 before you finally leave us. Amen
